Basics Of Starting An Online Business To Make Money

If you are a beginner, and want to build an online business, this might give you some direction.

The real fact is not everyone is cut out for owning their own business or even online business for that matter.

Here we go……… and not necessarily in this order but we will go over them afterwords…..

• Product (what you are selling)
• Market   (who is going to buy what you are selling)
• Location (a web property for your potential customers to visit)
• Advertising (how your customers will find your product)
• Promotion (bringing the most visitors to your site)

Making money online is more of a science than anything. It is actually much easier than having a location in a City somewhere because in that scenario you might have a limited market and online you basically have a world market depending on the type of product that you are selling.

When building a successful business online you want to find a market before you find a product. If you were going to sell monkey butt covers you should first research them to see how many people search for them and what kind of sales you might expect. That is why it is important to know your market before investing time and energy.

The other thing that is beneficial to selling online is that you can get customers that are directly interested in what you are selling by setting up your business correctly. In other words you don't have to sell anything to anybody. They just come to your site because that's what they were looking  to buy.

When searching for a market to sell too you will need to get an idea of how many searches there are per month for that type of product. As an example I will use the free Google Keyword Tool to demonstrate how to search for a market. But before I do that let's talk about products that you might like to sell.

There are all sorts of products to sell online and most every company that sells a product has an affiliate program to sell their products and pays a commission for each sale that you generate for them. This is really the best way to get started online because you don't have to have your own product and you don't have to invest in an inventory.

Most companies go through an affiliate broker to manage the sales of their products. Clickbank is one of these affiliate brokers and they manage thousands of different product . Most beneficial commission products are digital products and you will see much higher payouts on sales of these types of products.

You could probably expect 60-75% commission on a 97.00 sale of a digital product. That's a pretty good chunk of change if you were to make a sale or more a day from just promoting one product. There are all sorts of products and the sky is the limit depending on how hard you are willing to work.

Here we will finally go to the Free Google Keyword Tool and do a search for guitar scales.

If you click on the picture it will enlarge and you will be able to see that there are 74000 global monthly searches for that one keyword. Please note that I selected Exact Match in the box on the right of the titles. This gives you a much better idea of the search traffic than Broad Match. There are also several other related  keywords that we can use to get traffic for our sales on a site that we build for this product if we find one. The work is just beginning let's go to Clickbank   and see what we can find for a product.

Now here we are at Clickbank and I did a query search for the keyword guitar scales and these are the results of that search. These are the products that are in the top 10 of being promoted right now by affiliates. So now I want to go to Google search and see what my competition looks like on search.

Alright we can go to these sites and see how they are set up and even determine what products they are selling. I am not going to get into the deep specifics of research in this post but I want to give you the general idea of what you are looking at starting out. You haven't even begun to start the work that is going to take place to get this project making money. But this is one that I would go after. It has the search volume and it has the products also that are available with reasonable commissions.

So far so good you have not had to spend any money yet so let's keep it this way. There are several places that you can go to get free hosting and website services. One is Blogger.com another is Wordpress.org. There is nothing wrong with using free blogging services. Just go to Google and type in make money online and you will see at least two blogger free blogs that rank in the top four most of the time.

Before you set up your blog or website I will suggest that you do a few things in advance. Even though you might not know much about how to set up a site to make money online just think of it all like this…people type in what they are searching for online so how do the search engines know how to send the sites that are relevant to the front page of the results? Easy they have the keywords that were typed in located in their website titles and in their content pages.

I know this is fairly broad and vague information but be sure to have your targeted keywords in your site URL if at all possible and in your post titles too. Be sure to not over do it though. Now you have a web property or for the sake of this post you do so we can go to advertising mode.

You can pay for advertising or you can do free advertising. The difference is paid advertising brings instant traffic and free advertising takes lot's of work. I prefer the latter of the two. I don't mind doing the work that it takes to make money online because done right it turns into a very low maintenance passive income and it is very cost effective.

To promote a site by content is what I am suggesting here. Go to that keyword tool and pick out all the keywords that you think someone looking for that specific product would type into search so they could go and buy it. Then write a post of about 350 words for each keyword that you choose and publish them on your new site. Be sure to set it up with your link for the product. Make it look good.

The next step is promotion and this is where the real work starts. You are going to sign up for a few article directories and write more content about the specific keywords that you picked out. Then in the resource box you are going to leave a back link to your sites post that is a match for that keyword. You are going to do this countless times until you get that site ranking on the front page of search, then you will get the traffic, then you will get the conversion, then you will be making money online.
